Kinder Surprise originated in 1973 in Italy as Kinder Sorpresa. The German word "Kinder" name came about because in 1967, the German subsidiary of Ferrero introduced chocolate Kinder ("Kinderschokolade") for the German market and in 1968 that product was introduced into native Italy for Ferrero, establishing the "Kinder" no brand, before the introduction of the Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs. Kinder Surprise eggs were introduced into the German market in 1974, and for many years this was the largest market for the product. The concept of placing a toy on a chocolate appears to have originated in Argentina in 1962, with the introduction on the market of "Jack" Felfort chocolate company.
The toys are designed by interior designers and external self (eg, the French artist André Roche based in Munich) and manufactured by many companies worldwide, as Produzioni Editoriali Aprile, a small company based in Turin, Italy , directed and founded by two brothers, Ruggero and Valerio Aprile.
Kinder Eggs are sold all over the world except the United States because of the risk of suffocation. The 1938 Act Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act contains a [Full citation needed] section highlighting a confectionery product with a non-nutritive object, partially or completely embedded therein, can not be sold in the United States unless FDA issues a regulation that the object has no functional nutritional value. No such regulation has been issued.
In 1997, the staff of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall considered and some Kinder Surprise illegally brought to the United States with foreign labels. [3]
In Europe, they have become a minor cult phenomenon among adults. There is even a thriving collectors market for toys. There are many types of toys available, but some of the most popular with collectors include the ever-changing series of small hand-painted figures (some have to be assembled); cartoon characters, metal figures and jigsaw puzzles. Seasonal eggs are introduced around the holidays, such as limited edition collections nursery (with characters like the Magi, Child Jesus, and assorted barnyard animals) found around Christmas, and the largest found at Easter (very popular in Italy).
